John Holdway distinctly remembers being put through the ringers in Jim Hennesey's first year drawing class at Maryland Institute, College of Art. He had a great time his first year at MICA. He lived in the city. He was around artists all the time. He painted and drew continuously. Unfortunately he spent all the money his parents had saved in that first year. He did a year at University of Maryland where he concentrated on steel sculpture with John Rupert. He made it back to MICA after many jobs and travels. He continued to paint, studying quite a bit with Paul Moscatt. He finally graduated in 1997 with a degree in painting. Recently he moved with his wife Michelle to Portland, Oregon. There he continues to pursue his art.
